Throughout my life, God has been faithful. I was raised in the RCA in a caring Christian home, was challenged in my faith by an amazing youth pastor, and was blessed in college to know a group of young men that were constantly trying to live out their belief. God's guidance through these formative years laid a solid foundation for my faith.
Post graduation, I joined the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students establishing a student movement in St. Petersburg, Russia. After two years abroad, I came to Timothy for what I thought would be one year. Twenty years later, God has surprised me often and blessed me enormously. I am living Proverbs 3:5-6. I love the community here and have made lifelong friends. I also meet my wife Kara here, who currently works at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church as the Children's Ministry Coordinator. We have been blessed with three daughters; Lilia, Adrianna, and Isabella, who all love attending Timothy.
I graduated from Central College with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. During my time in Russia, I taught English and Philosophy classes in the Ghertzin State University. Here at Timothy I have taught Bible and computer classes at almost every level, including to the staff. In 2003, I completed my Masters of Science in Computer Network Systems. For eight years, I also taught the “Technology in Education” class for Trinity Christian’s adult studies program.
My position as Director of Technology is well suited for me. I enjoy technology, but even more I am passionate about seeing how technology can improve our lives. Finding new ways to present our curriculum, challenging students to use technology to interact with their world, and empowering students to become self-learners are the things I can get excited about.
I have always enjoyed working with youth which is another reason I am happy to be part of this school. As part of this Christian community we have the chance to help nurture young faith, something I take very seriously. Even more so we can open their eyes to a larger Christian worldview.
In my position as Director of Technology, I see how technology is not only a necessity in today’s world, but it is also becoming a guiding force of our culture. I want to see more of our students being leaders in technology and then use the new mediums to God’s glory. At their best, Christians have pushed technology forward while guiding its direction with Godly discernment. That is what I want taught here.

I was born and raised in a small tourist town about an hour from Toronto, Ontario. I loved to spend time outdoors and being surrounded by God’s creation. After high school I attended Calvin College where I met my wife. We have been married for 7 years and have a daughter, Kinley (1) and dog Charlie. I enjoy playing board games, guitar, and anything related to hockey.
I graduated from Calvin with B.S.Ed in Biology and Chemistry in 2009. After that I took a long-term sub position at Martin High School in Martin, MI for the remainder of that school year. This year will be my seventh year at Timothy. I will be teaching AP Biology and Honors Biology as well as helping with the tech department as a tech coach this school year. I also coach girl's volleyball and the varsity girl's soccer team and am working toward attaining my masters degree in teaching biological science from the University of Illinois.
I believe God wants us to be actively involved in His Creation whether it is asking questions, investigating the intricacies of His handiwork, or simply being surrounded by His Creation in awe-struck wonder. I believe that in every student there is a certain degree of curiosity about the world. My role as a teacher is to further develop this curiosity so that each student can appreciate the mysteriousness and wonder of all that God calls His. In doing so, we learn who God is and can continue to take steps forward in our walk of faith with Christ.

I grew up in Chicago and enjoy being back in my home town after teaching and administrating across the country for many years. I enjoy the opportunity to cheer for all my home town teams, especially the Bears, Hawks, and Cubs! I enjoy any activity that allows me to be outdoors, including playing sports, hiking, biking, kayaking, and cross country skiing. I also have a passion for fishing that I inherited from my father and grandfather.
I’m a 1974 (ouch) graduate of Trinity Christian College (B.A. in Theology), received my M.A. in Education from Nova University, and earned an Ed.D from UCLA in School Administration. I’ve taught both middle school and high school (Bible, Social Studies, and PE) and have coached basketball, baseball, football, and softball at the high school level. I have worked in Christian schools in Miami, Denver, Los Angeles, and Holland, Michigan. I came to Timothy in 2004 after spending the previous 18 years as a high school principal, and the change has been a real blessing. The younger children enjoy coming to school every day, they still love their principal (what a refreshing difference ), and the food in an elementary faculty room is far superior to any high school faculty room!
As a reformed-thinking Christian, I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Lord of all creation, including education. I also recognize the importance of sharing His goodness and greatness with our children as we are instructed in Deuteronomy 6: 4-9. Consequently, TCS exists to help Christian parents in their desire to have their children educated in a school that shares their fundamental core values and Biblical world view. It is an honor for me to work in a school that pursues its Christ centered mission with passion and consistency.

I live in Elmhurst with my husband Doug (TC class of 1995) and our 4 children, Greta, Aiden, Lucy and Benet. We enjoy traveling to new places and trying new things. In the summer, we like visiting Doug's parents at their home on Payne Lake where we all push the limits of what we can do behind a ski boat. I enjoy a variety of art activities: drawing, jewelry making, painting, home decor, crafts with my kids. My favorite art media to work with is pastels.
I coordinate the GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) program at Western Springs CRC where our family attends. It has been very fun for me to walk along side our girls as their faith in God strengthens- and obviously I love crafts!
I attended Calvin College (class of 2000) where I worked in ceramics studio as work/study program. The practical skills I learned in the studio in regards to clay and glaze have been priceless throughout my career. I have worked at the Elmhurst Park District art camps and taught some art camps at Timothy. I enjoy attending teacher classes at the Art Institute and have had the opportunity to lead a workshop there on a Van Gogh unit I had created for my 6th grade students.
I began my art education career at Timothy (2000-2007) working in the elementary art room, so it's a thrill to be back! During these past years, I have substitute taught at Timothy. That has given me such a unique insight into how the school runs and how hard each teacher works to provide an excellent education. I have an even deeper respect for our faculty and staff after having walked a bit in their shoes.
Philosophy of Education
As a believer in the one true God, who created heaven and earth and who created us in His image, I see each student as an image bearer. Part of His design for us is to be creative like Him. I think every one of us has the capability to create, and I think it's good for us to do so!
I design my lesson plans for every child be successful. Each project we do in class has clear objectives and instruction, as well as lots of room for individuality. Students will be exposed to a variety of media: watercolor, tempera, acrylic paint, pastels, oil pastels, ceramics and more! Art class is not just for those who are good at drawing. It's for all God's people.

Mrs. Heather Hopek
What a blessing to become a part of the Timothy Christian community! Coming to Timothy has been one of those experiences I never saw coming but God did and I feel such gratitude to be put here at this time on His mission. My pride and joy has been raising my 3 beautiful daughters alongside my poor husband - the lone male of the house. My oldest daughter, Madelyn is a sophomore at St. Mary’s College in South Bend majoring in statistics and accounting. My middle daughter, Korinne is a senior in high school and is looking to attend college “some place warm” so we are all anxious to see where that turns out to be! My youngest daughter will be attending Timothy Christian and entering 8th grade. She is very excited to be here as well.
With very active children who have competed in cheer, dance, swim and track our hobby has become sampling concession stand food at just about every high school in the greater Chicagoland area as we attend all their events. Wouldn’t trade it for anything! As we start the transition to fewer kids and activities in our daily lives we are looking forward to enjoying some higher end food fare and sitting in chairs with backs on them!
My first teaching job was in a rural town in North Carolina fresh out of Alma College in Alma, Michigan. After two years there I married my college sweetheart and we moved to South Bend, Indiana where he attended Notre Dame for graduate school and I taught middle school in Michigan City. Upon his graduation we moved to Memphis, Tennessee for a year where I taught in a small Christian school. An opportunity arose that brought us closer to our family in Michigan and we moved to Chicago where I was blessed to have been able to spend the first 10 years raising our daughters. Once again an unexpected opportunity became available and I took a teaching job at Trinity High School in River Forest, an all girls Catholic school, where I spent the past 11 years teaching biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology.
As a teacher we have this most amazing opportunity to guide students on their path to discovering their gifts, talents and desires to serve God. That path is different for each student as are those gifts and talents. Helping students realize their value in God’s great universe and nurturing that sense of self and service by uncovering those strengths and abilities brings me great joy and makes me so excited to come to work every day!

Christian education has always been an important part of my life - from attending Christian schools myself from preschool through college - and continuing by teaching in them. It is such a blessing to get to see children understanding and realizing that God is real! I had the privilege to grow up in a loving home where my parents firmly believed in Christian education. I grew up in Holland, MI where I attended Holland Christian Schools. I moved to Illinois permanently when I married my husband Tim. We attend Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hinsdale and truly enjoy being involved as a part of our church community. Tim and I currently live in Westchester with our children Owen, Ty, and Lucy. In my (rare) spare moments I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, painting my nails, and spending time with family and friends.
As a child, I loved to play school and enjoyed going to school just as much. In second grade I decided that I wanted to become a teacher and my love for teaching never changed. I attended Trinity Christian College and graduated in 2002 with a B.A. in Elementary Education, a minor in Special Education, and endorsements in social sciences and language arts. I began my teaching career at Calvary Academy in South Holland teaching fourth grade for four years before having my oldest son. After staying home for a few years, I spent some time at Timothy tutoring, subbing and spending a few months doing a maternity leave in kindergarten. Most recently, I taught preschool here at Timothy from 2013-2016 and have been part of the first grade team since 2016.
I am so excited to spend a few days a week in first grade! I look forward to spending my days with children who really see the beauty in God and His creation and facilitating their learning during their school experience. What an honor it is to work with students as they learn so many foundational skills in first grade! It is a joy to see God's handiwork in each individual child through their uniqueness and own social, physical, and spiritual growth. I hope to create a Christian community in our classroom where students feel safe, loved, and embraced

I grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois with my parents and two older siblings. I attended Timothy Christian Schools beginning in pre-school and graduated from the high school in 2006. I currently live in Villa Park with my wife, Nicole and our two daughters, Adeline (age 3) and Eloise (6 months).. I enjoy playing, coaching and watching just about any sport, but especially basketball, and am a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs (they did it!), Bulls, and Bears.
After graduating from Timothy Christian High School, I attended Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL where I graduated with degrees in Psychology and Exercise Science in 2011. Upon graduation, I worked as an Admissions Counselor at Trinity for three years working with students and parents from across the United States. While working at Trinity, I obtained my Master’s degree in School Counseling and Guidance from Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. Upon completion of my program at Lewis in the summer of 2014, I worked in the counseling office at Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, IL throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
At Timothy, we have the opportunity to provide a wonderful education and academic experience, but even more importantly, we are called to train students in the truth of God’s word and to prepare them to use the unique gifts, talents, and abilities God has given them to make a difference for Him throughout their life. As a School Counselor, it is my mission to support, encourage and guide students as they learn and discover their gifts in and outside of the classroom environment, and to help each of them feel confident about the next phase of their life as they embrace Christ’s call to be His hands and feet in this world.
