Our students had a fabulous time the afternoon of February 11 as we welcomed BMX star Matt Wilhelm! Matt is a motivational speaker, three-time X Games Medalist, World Championship Silver Medalist, and two-time United States National Champion. He was also a semi-finalist on “America’s Got Talent” and Winner of FOX TV’s 30 Seconds to Fame.
Our students enthusiastically cheered him on as he performed amazing and complex bike stunts. He called several volunteers from the audience to help him with some of his stunts, including teachers Mrs. Voss and Mr. Scholma.
Interspersed between his tricks, he spoke from the heart to our students, encouraging them to be a hero to someone who is being bullied. Sharing stories from his own life about being called names, he challenged them to have courage to use their words to make someone feel valuable. He reminded that that we all have special gifts and talents and we need to be our personal best. His final words to our students were this “God does not make mistakes. He made you unique and different.”
He definitely made an impact our our students and almost all the students agreed…”That was a COOL assembly!”
