Count Your Blessings
by Matt Davidson
I continue to be amazed at the strength of the Timothy community. The opportunity to witness the faith and unwavering support of our families has been a great blessing in the midst of this trial. I’ve had a front row seat to real life stories that are so inspirational that they should be published.
Over the weekend, I heard from many of you again. A funny text that I received was a request for Monday to be a “snow day” after the light snowfall on Sunday. I also received a text from a relatively new family asking me how they could help. (This remains the #1 question that I get from Timothy families.) I was so blessed by this particular request because I know this family probably needs help themselves, yet they so firmly subscribe to the mission of Timothy Christian Schools that they are looking for ways to “roll up their sleeves” and pitch in.
Perhaps one of my favorite communications over the weekend was a text from another Timothy parent on Sunday. Here is a portion:
Go forth in the Lord today and continue praying and praising God…In JESUS’ name HALLELUJAH!
This text came from a Timothy father whose work has been interrupted by the shelter in place order, and his particular line of work cannot be done remotely. Even so, his positive attitude glows as he places his trust in Jesus. This man has been a part of the Timothy community for a long time. He has always loved our school, and now more than ever he is grateful for the partnership. It is quite extraordinary to watch our community unite behind our mission now more than ever: “For the glory of God, Timothy Christian Schools exists to uphold Biblical truth, ignite academic growth, and inspire courageous leadership one student at a time.” I am not only reminded of God’s faithfulness through these witnesses around me, but I am even challenged to follow their example. What a blessing.
There is an old song we used to sing in church titled “Count Your Blessings.” Part of the chorus goes like this: “Count your blessings; name them one by one. Count your blessings; see what God hath done.”
- Take some time as a family and rehearse the goodness of God over the last few weeks. Count the blessings that are all around you and look for more. Brainstorm.
- Now think about how you as a family can be a blessing to someone else and put an action plan together to make it happen. Here are some verses to help start the conversation.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
1 Timothy 2:1
