Each year, Timothy has the sad task of saying farewell to staff members who are leaving. This year, we say goodbye to these dear folks. We wish them God’s blessings as they continue to serve Him in other places and ways.
Happy Retirement to Mrs. Cheryl Voss and Mr. Hank VanderNaald! Both of these TC Alumni are retiring at the end of this year after serving Timothy for 25 and 29 years respectively. They will be featured in a blog story on our website in upcoming weeks so stay tuned!
So long to…

Farewell to students: The most difficult and also most fulfilling part of life is living in surrender to Christ. God grant you grace to humble yourself before him each day in surrender…. “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23
Name: Julie Davidson
Current Position: Advancement Support
Years at TC: About 3 as a paid employee
Other Activities/Responsibilities: Along with helping Bob in Advancement, I have also helped with HS student events.
Favorite Memories: Some of my favorites are the times I was able to spend with the high school students, which included my own kids- having them hang out in my office, helping them plan events and watching them enjoy themselves at the events. I think my favorite night this year was Trojan Madness and I always love the dodgeball tournament night also. An advancement favorite was when we received word that we raised all 16 million for the new expansion, and we went over $150k for the Jog-a-thon. I will never forget the overwhelming gratitude I have felt when I’ve seen God’s provision first-hand time and time again through the generosity of others. That has been a beautiful and powerful experience. The community of Timothy is such a generous group of givers, and it has been a blessing to see how God works through others on behalf of this organization.
What I’ll Miss Most: The daily interaction with the students and having my family and I all in the same place. Matt’s daily gum stops in my office. I’ll also miss Bob’s kind spirit and sense of humor. He’s been great to work with and I’ll miss that. Really, everyone here is great to work with. I will miss being around the buzz of the school.
Plans after leaving TC: We will see what God has in store, but I am still planning on still being around here to help out in various ways and support my husband however I can.
Name: Emily Grandlienard
Current Position: High School Math Teacher
Years at TC: 3
Other Activities I’ve been involved in: Assistant Dance Coach, Octoberfest,
Favorite Memories: Some of my favorite memories have been listening to my student’s funny questions, comments, and stories throughout the years. Their curiosity and humor is always contagious. My other favorite moments have been while coaching the Dance Team and helping the team grow so much in the 3 years. Watching my girls dance often brought tears to my eyes when I reflected on how much adversity they have worked through and how far each of them have come. They also never ceased to leave me with a smile on my face at the end of long days of practice, competition, or game performances.
Specifically, one of my favorite memories from this past year was telling the whole team I was pregnant at the United Center before we performed at halftime. Their joy, shock, and the photo of their reactions were priceless.
What I’ll Miss Most: What I will miss most about Timothy is the faculty and their friendships, humor, and mentoring. I have learned so much about teaching, life, and Christian community by working alongside so many wonderful people. While I definitely plan to come back and visit (everyone loves to see a baby, right?), I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis.
Plans after leaving TC: God has so graciously provided so I am able to stay at home with our first child who is due July 1, 2017. Along with being a stay at home mom, I hope to continue tutoring students part time.
Name: Kim Lee
Current Position: 5th Grade Teacher
Years at TC: 6 years
Other Activities I’ve been involved in: I have coached 7th grade basketball and 8th grade volleyball.
Favorite Memories: Field trips with the 5th graders, Friday chapels, CEA convention, attending student programs and concerts, coaching all of my amazing girls in basketball and volleyball, and watching my students grow and mature from their 10 year old selves that I knew so well.
What I’ll Miss Most: I will miss the families, the people, my students, and the culture of TC. I knew no one in the Chicago area when I moved here, and now I have so many wonderful people surrounding and supporting me. I will also miss the daily interaction with the students and staff. Every day brings a new day with new excitement to the classroom. It will be hard to say good-bye to all of those wonderful smiling faces I have been blessed to teach every day!
Plans after leaving TC: We are moving to Iowa for my husband to start his ministry career as lead pastor at Archer Reformed Church in Archer, Iowa, and I hope to find another school there to teach and coach.

Favorite Memories: I have a lot of great memories from Timothy but some of them include all of the funny conversations with my students and coworkers, planning and running Octoberfest for 2 years, and bonding with students on the trips to Costa Rica and Honduras for ReNew. I have also loved teaching with many of the amazing teachers that taught me when I was a student at Timothy and getting to know them better.
